Our Easter Miracles

I have so much to write about today, but I doubt I will be able to remember everything or say it very succinctly.

Our first Miracle happed this morning after church. Magda wanted me to change her diaper, but it wasn't dirty so she said she wanted to go potty. Once there she changed her mind and wanted to get a diaper back on so she could do her poops in a diaper. However, I have a friend whose 4-year-old still poops in a diaper and I really don't want to go there with Magda. So I encouraged her to stay on the potty; we sang a few songs and read a few books, and she pooped in the potty for the very first time!

The second Miracle happened this evening at bedtime. Magda took a late nap after hunting Easter eggs at Elizabeth's. She was running on a sleep deficit so I know she was still tired after her nap. Nevertheless, she took over an hour to fall asleep. Part of that was nursing, but after nursing both sides she was still restless and not sleeping. So I gave her some water, told her we were done nursing for the night, and we would cuddle to sleep. She said okay and though she continued to be restless and took at least another half hour to fall asleep, she didn't ask to nurse again and ended up falling asleep without nursing.

My baby's growing up. I'm going to miss her babyhood but I'm also looking forward to the next stage. Her progress is absolutely fascinating.

Happy Easter 2007

We had a great Easter Sunday. It was too cold to go swimming this morning so we (including Stepan and Mom) were able to go to 10am mass. After mass, we went to Elizabeth's for Easter lunch (ham and potato salad) and a great egg hunt. Magda was more into the egg hunt this year. Kayleigh collected a couple of eggs, but was distracted by what was inside them. She quickly gave up looking for the eggs in favor of eating their chocolate candy contents.

It was fun watching Jonathan, Kayleigh, and Magda go after the eggs in Elizabeth's backyard. In contrast to what I remember of hunting eggs when growing up, it was really sweet to see all three kids helping each other find eggs and reach the ones that were unreachable. We all also had a really great time with the cascarones I brought.

Biscuits, Guy, and Those Darned Dogs

We had what started out as a wonderful Saturday afternoon. Jessica buzzed our pre-school group with information on a Biscuit Brothers concert at Central Market in the afternoon. She was also kind enough to mention that Guy Forsyth would be playing on the patio later that evening.

Magda seemed fascinated with the Biscuit Brothers. She knew some of the songs they sang and the ones that were new to her were full of energy. The Biscuit Brothers are very engaging. I just might start recording the show on PBS and we'll definitely be open to going to another concert.

After the show, we played outside until dinner time and the Guy performance. Magda even wandered off to the playset on her own. It was very hard to let her go off without me, but it's nice that she is beginning to establish some independence. It was also nice that she was wearing her bright orange overalls so I could see her from where I was sitting.

Magda was very interested in hearing Guy Forsyth. Unfortunately, our dinner was ready right as the band was getting ready to start. It was hard to pull her away from the outside stage, but we managed to have a fun dinner where we were joined by another boy from our pre-school group and his father.

After dinner, we were finally able to go dance and listen to the best musician in Austin. The kids loved it. All three of them were running around and spinning and dancing together. Magda was having a ball. She especially like it when Step and I got up to do a west coast swing. In fact, she insisted on joining us so I finished the dance holding onto a very giggly Magda. Stepan danced the next swing with Jessica and I was going to sit down, Magda grabbed my hand and said she wanted to dance with me "just like Tata".

The band took a break and Magda again wandered off to the playground (though I made Stepan go with her this time). We were all set to stay for at least one more set when Stepan got a call. Some kind soul called to tell us that our dogs had gotten out of the backyard and were roaming the park. He said he was able to coax Rosie back into the backyard, but Homer wouldn't get near him (big surprise). I had no faith that Rosie would actually stay in the backyard since she was likely the one who found a way out in the first place. Sure enough both dogs were gone when we got home about 15 minutes after we got the call. I called for them and Homer came running, but Rosie was no where to be found. Stepan went looking for her while I put Magda to bed and kept a phone close. Stepan first walked the park then went out in the car. He had been gone for about an hour when Homer jumped up and barked at the front door. I looked out the window and there was Rosie, wagging her tail and holding a Frisbee in her mouth. No idea where she went, but it's nice to know that she can find her way back home when she manages to get a little bit of freedom.

I think I'll be calling the fence company on Monday.

My Place is Saved

Kayleigh and Magda both like to sit in my lap...especially if the other one is currently ensconced there. Today at Elizabeth's, Magda was on my lap when she heard Dale in the kitchen. She really wanted a piece of bread, but didn't want to give up her place in the center of my lap to Kayleigh. She was utterly torn until I told her those four magic words, "My place is saved!". She loved it. Thereafter, she would sit on my lap for a brief minute then run off to the living room and back. When she was gone, Kayleigh would crawl into my lap but would dutifully move to the side when Magda returned. It was very cute. Magda didn't quite grasp that she needed to say the magic words every time she left her seat, but that will come in time. Also in time, I'm sure she'll learn the entire magic word phrasing, "My place is saved, for me, until I come back, really 'n' truly, no take-backs!".

Other Notable Events of the Day

I missed my baby today. I got up before she woke to go swimming. By the time I got back, Elizabeth had picked her up for a day of play at her house while I worked in her bedroom (which is so close to being finished!). So I nursed her to sleep on Thursday night around 9:30pm and didn't get to see her again until I got to Elizabeth's today at 4:45pm.

Maybe it was going all day without seeing me or maybe it was watching Curious George at Elizabeth's or maybe it was faintly hearing the scary TV show (Supernatural) that Stepan and I were watching, but for some reason, my poor darling woke up to a nightmare this evening. Though she tried to tell me what was going on, she never fully woke up, so I'm not sure what it was all about. She went right back to sleep (without nursing) but she still sounded so sad.

I think there was something else I wanted to write about (Magda tripping on the sidewalk and bloodying her lip?), but I'm not sure what it was. I'm sure it will come to me tomorrow and I'm fairly sure that I won't have time to blog about it. Whatever it was, it was probably pretty cool.
