If and when you have another baby and it's a boy, hope and pray you aren't in the vicinity when he gets circumcised.
I was in the room (with a partition) when Bryan was circumcised, and I thought he was dying of pain. I remember his cry very painful to hear.
Posted by Theresa at October 27, 2004 6:54 AMYOUR NOT GOING TO CIRCUMCISE THEM ARE YOU?!?
I thought that was one of the plusses of marrying a European man.
Posted by TIA at October 27, 2004 12:20 PMAny boys we have won't be circumcised. This isn't something we had to discuss too much. "Like father, like son" has always been my opinion.
Posted by I at October 27, 2004 1:56 PMI think if you're going to have something traumatic like circumcision performed on your child that you absolutely have the responsibility to stay with him when it is being done, not go off somewhere so you don't have to witness the consequences of your decision. Plus, of course, you should demand anesthetic for your poor infant.
No, Jonathan is not circumcised. Meredith, you are right--it's definitely one of the plusses of marrying a European man, not having to have that discussion.
Posted by Elizabeth at October 27, 2004 4:09 PMIt boggles my mind that so many people here still routinely and unquestioningly practice genital mutilation of little boys because of some weird Victorian hangups from over a century ago.
