Rained Out

Earlier in the week, I had vague aspirations of going on the Pedal Power Wildflower Ride. However, I failed to inspect our bikes (which have been stored unused in the garage all winter) and we stayed up way too late last night (probably on purpose) to get up early enough to make the registration period.

So, knowing we weren't going biking, I got up early this morning anyway to mow the lawn, but when I let Homer out everything was wet (did it rain last night?). Strike two for my good intentions for the day...instead I've spent the entire morning reading...now I think it's time for a nap.

Back in the Saddle

After a very long winter break, I've finally ridden my bike to work again. It was a beautiful morning for a bike ride. The weather was perfect (upper 50s) and the breeze, while strong and brisk, was mostly at my back. I don't think I'll push my luck and ride home (that's what the bus is for, isn't it?), but I'm considering riding in again tomorrow.

The Dog Has Taste

Homer has been very good lately about not chewing on our shoes. It has made me sadly complacent about putting my shoes up where they belong. I thought he had grown up and lost his taste for sweaty, stinky, rubber and canvass. Turns out he was only waiting for Teva season to start chowing down again!

He always looks so sad when I leave early in the morning...and I had to leave before 7am this morning since I was riding the bike in. Lucky for me, I'm not as organized as I would like to be. I had left the house for what I thought was the very last time, when I decided it would be easiest to leave my bike in the driveway, shut the garage door, then exit the house via the front door. Upon reentering the kitchen, I was met with the sight of a very happy puppy, laying on the floor in the dining room, with one of my Tevas between his paws. He was too cute to beat, but I did put all of my shoes up before I finally left for work.

Under the Knife

We're off in a couple of minutes to go to my appointment with the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. I'm finally having my wisdom teeth removed.

Since they will be putting me under, Stepan has also taken the day off to drive me home and take care of me while I recuperate from the effects of whatever they will be using to knock me out for the surgery. It shouldn't be too hard - I expect I'll be sleeping most of the day.

If you never hear from me again, consider it a sign that you should never go to Ann Kristovich for your dental surgery needs...

I'm Alive!

Ann Kristovich is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeo Extraordiarre :-) I have a bit of soreness, but it isn't too bad. I have no recollection at all of the actual surgery...though I do vaguely remember being disappointed it was over.

Now, I'm hanging around the house with my honey and my dog, watching Ghost Ship and eating pudding. I can think of worse way to spend a Thursday afternoon.

Committed

I'm committed to having a garage sale on Saturday. The ad has appeared in the paper so I have to go through with it now. Luckily, since I'm off work to recouperate from my dental surgery, I can spend all day preparing for it...culling old clothes from my closets and drawers, preparing Stepan for the loss of the living room furniture, making street signs and price tags....

Wish me luck...

SOLD...Mostly

Our garage sale was a moderate success. We didn't sale the couch or recliner, like I had hoped we would, but we got rid of a lot of housewares, bed sheets, and clothing that we have no use for. Most things that didn't sell were taken to Goodwill. I'm not sure what we'll be doing with the couch and easy chair. I'll either post an ad at the student union at UT or I'll have one of the local charities come pick them up this week. Hopefully, they won't be around the house much longer.

Today we shop for new living room furniture and a new kitchen table. This is suppose to be the fun part, but Step and I have trouble agreeing on style and color and neither one of us are the best at making decisions. Liz thinks it will take a month to get new seating in place...I hope not, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Great Weekend

Mom came into town for Easter this weekend. We had a great time...mostly talking and shopping and preparing for our neighborhood picnic. Stepan made fresh baked bread and homemade chocolate ice cream and I made a white wine punch (yes, we're still trying to get rid of our wedding wine). All contributions were greatly appreciated by the neighbors who supplied equally yummy picnic foods: spiral sliced ham, potato salad, chocolate cake, blondies, etc. It's great living in a place where you know and like your neighbors.

Neighbors

Writing the previous entry got me to thinking about neighbors I've had. Most of the ones that stick out in my mind are the kids I played with growing up. In Portland, there was a boy who lived a couple of houses down. His last name was Walker...I can't remember his first name. I think he was the one I was racing on my bicycle when I ran into a parked car (I would have been somewhere between 6-8 years old). Also, I got a spanking from Dad after playing with the water hose in the front yard with him after Dad specifically told me not to play with the water (ahh...memories!). There was also Christy Rizzo though I can't remember if she lived down the street from us in Wichita Falls or behind us in Portland (Meredith, Mom, do you remember her?).

Anyway, I'm very pleased with the neighbors I have now.

Out of Place

Today, on my way back to the office from lunch, there were two of Austin's finest, riding their horses down Salado - a very small residential street in the West Campus area of Austin. I've seen members of the Mounted Patrol before, but it was usually in a crowd-control situation in downtown. Turns out the West Campus area is within the Downtown Area Command (barely). And regardless of the oddity of seeing them there, I still watched them in my rear view mirror to see if they started galloping after me...don't ask me where I thought they kept their sirens 'cause I just wouldn't have an answer for you!

Just in Time

I rode my bike to work again today. It was a gorgeous morning for it. Slightly cool, no headwind. I did manage to make it in with time to cool down and stretch before it started raining...who knew we had rain in the forecast? I really must pay closer attention to the weather report from now on! I just hope it clears up by the time I have to head home.

It's Here, It's Here!!!

Just a quick note to mark my great enthusiasm for my new Sports Instruments Pro 7 Heart Rate Monitor. I've been waiting for it to be delivered since Wednesday. Yesterday, I called the shop I ordered it from to get the UPS tracking number. After checking on the web, I knew it would be delivered sometime today. All day long, everytime the doorbell rang, I would want to run downstairs to see if it was the Man in Brown. Unfortunately, I have lots of work to do before I head home so I can't play with it until tonight. I'm definitely looking forward to my 7am swim with Team Danskin in the morning!

Bumped...and Mad About It

Ugh! I'm so frustrated with Kisma Hair Salon. On principle alone, I will never get my hair done there again...Never that is unless they offer me a comp cut and style.

Over a month ago (please remember that I rarely plan ahead), I set up a hair appointment with Ruban in the early afternoon to get my hair cut and styled on Saturday in preparation for the wedding we're going to that day. I requested Nicole (she's the one who originally cut my hair), but she doesn't work on Saturday. She recommended Rueban which was fine with me (I'm usually pretty easy to please when it comes to my hair) especially since he did my hair for my wedding.

Yesterday, I got a call from Kisma. Ruban is now booked to do a wedding on Saturday afternoon and could I move my appointment to the morning? Since I have a commitment to Team Danskin, my Saturday morning is unavailable. If I can't have my hair done on Saturday, I asked if Nicole was available during the week, but she apparently books up two months out (though it should be noted that she did have opening this week when I originally called for the appointment).

Now, I'm left to scramble to find someone to cut my hair. The guy who cut my hair when it was long, Francisco, doesn't work on Saturdays and hasn't yet returned my call about an opening this week. A couple of other salons I've cold called are already booked on Saturday.

I'm so frustrated I just want to scream or cry or go for nice hard run around Town Lake. UGH!!!!!!

Foiled...but Not

My original plan for the day was to go swimming (finally) at Northwest District Pool after work. I've heard that it's opened in the afternoons now. I'm slowly learning that it's best not to make any plans. The good news is that my plans were foiled by Francisco. He was able to make an opening in his schedule for me this afternoon so my hair is at least cut. I tried real hard to pay attention while he was styling my hair, but it was just too relaxing...

Anyway, I've been home for two hours now and my loving husband not yet noticed my new coif...
